Symphonic Sea

Together with the Ensamble del Viento and CETACEA Ecuador we want to generate a creative way to reflect on the conservation of marine species through the musical research project "Symphonic Sea". This project is based on the creation of compositions through interaction with the song of humpback whales, thus allowing the development of a
little explored area:interspecies music.
This year, the first phase of the project has been developed and, with the creation of the first musical work nominated “Serenade of May, Interspecies music together with the song of the humpback whales of Esmeraldas”, performed by the Wind Ensemble.

To develop the musical discourse, the recording of the song of humpback whales recorded generators on all coasts was used, composition and improvisation within the work.

The work musically describes the arrival of humpback whales from Antarctica to Esmeraldas (Ecuador), on a journey of thousands of kilometers that takes place from June to September each year.
